Nowadays, these devices and websites are used to offer ability of remotecommunication (phone calls, message exchange etc.), which potentially can beused to notify people about meetings in the real world. Since the current socialnetwork models do not provide enough information for such notification (socialnetworking websites are examples of social networks) a new social network modelthat will be suitable for the above mentioned application is proposed and a newsocial platform that base on mobile devices is introduced. This platform cannotify users when their friends are nearby. The paper presents the model andthe simulation that verifies the approach

    Modelling Agents Cooperation Through Internal Visions of Social Network and Episodic Memory

    Human societies appear in many types of simulations. Particularly, a lot of new computer games contain a virtual world that imitates the real world. A few of the most important and the most difficult society elements to be modelled are the social context and individuals cooperation. In this paper we show how the social context and cooperation ability can be provided using agents that are equipped with internal visions of mutual social relations. Internal vision is a representation of social relations from the agent's point of view so, due to being subjective, it may be inconsistent with the reality. We introduce the agent model and the mechanism of rebuilding the agent's internal vision that is similar to that used by humans. An experimental proof of concept implementation is also presented

    Computer Aided Distributed Post-Stroke Rehabilitation Environment

    In this paper we present the results of a two-year study aimed at developing a full-fledged computer environment supporting post-stroke rehabilitation. The system was designed by a team of computer scientists, psychologists and physiotherapists. It adopts a holistic approach to rehabilitation. In order to extend the rehabilitation process, the applied methods include a remote rehabilitation stage which can be carried out of at the patient’s home. The paper presents a distributed system architecture as well as results achieved by patients prior to and following a three-month therapy based on the presented system

    Application of Weighted Voting Taggers to Languages Described with Large Tagsets

    The paper presents baseline and complex part-of-speech taggers applied to the modified corpus of Frequency Dictionary of Contemporary Polish, annotated with a large tagset. First, the paper examines accuracy of 6 baseline part-of-speech taggers. The main part of the work presents simple weighted voting and complex voting taggers. Special attention is paid to lexical voting methods and issues of ties and fallbacks. TagPair and WPDV voting methods achieve the top accuracy among all considered methods. Error reduction 10.8 % with respect to the best baseline tagger for the large tagset is comparable with other author's results for small tagsets

    Two-Layer Load Balancing for Onedata System

    The recent years have significantly changed the perception of web services and data storages, as clouds became a big part of IT market. New challenges appear in the field of scalable web systems, which become bigger and more complex. One of them is designing load balancing algorithms that could allow for optimal utilization of servers' resources in large, distributed systems. This paper presents an algorithm called Two-Level Load Balancing, which has been implemented and evaluated in onedata - a global data access system. A study of onedata architecture, request types and use cases has been performed to determine the requirements of load balancing set by similar, highly scalable distributed systems. The algorithm was designed to match these requirements, and it was achieved by using a synergy of DNS and internal dispatcher load balancing. Test results show that the algorithm does not introduce considerable overheads and maintains the performance of the system on high level, even in cases when its servers are not equally loaded

    In a modern globalised world, military and peace keeping forces often face situations which require very subtle and well planned operations taking into account cultural and social aspects of a given region and its population as well as dynamic psychological awareness related to recent events which can have impact on the attitude of the civilians. The goal of the EUSAS project is to develop a prototype of a system enabling mission planning support and training capabilities for soldiers and police forces dealing with asymmetric threat situations, such as crowd control in urban territory. In this paper, we discuss the data-farming infrastructure developed for this project, allowing generation of large amount of data from agent based simulations for further analysis allowing soldier training and evaluation of possible outcomes of different rules of engagement

    A Novel Way of Using Simulations to Support Urban Security Operations

    The growing importance of security operations in urban terrain has triggered many attempts to address the perceived gaps in the readiness of security forces for this type of combat. One way to tackle the problem is to employ simulation techniques. Simulations are widely used to support both mission rehearsal and mission analysis, but these two applications tend to be seen as distinctly separate. We argue that integrating them in a unified framework can bring significant benefits for end-users. We perform a structured walk-through of such a unified system, in which a novel approach to integration through the behaviour cloning enabled the system to capture the operational knowledge of security experts, which is often difficult to express verbally. This capability emerged as essential for the operation of the integrated system. We also illustrate how the interplay between the system components for the mission analysis and mission rehearsal is realized

    Agent-based Simulation Platform Evaluation in the Context of Human Behavior Modeling

In this paper we provide a brief survey of agent based simulation (ABS) platforms and evaluate two of them – NetLogo and MASON – by implementing an exemplary scenario in the context of human behavior modeling. We define twelve evaluation points, which we discuss for both of the evaluated systems. The purpose of our evaluation is to identify the best ABS platform for parametric studies (data farming) of human behavior, but we intend to use the system also for training purposes.
